Deadpool & Wolverine is the No. 1 movie in America at this moment. The action-packed movie was an immediate and massive box office success, setting records in its opening weekend. The movie is so popular that it is generating huge profits, even for some songs.

Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” is such a hit. The tune is used in a very clever and fun way in Deadpool & Wolverine, no spoilers here and it’s that important timing that helps the track become a streaming hit again.

Billboard reported that from July 26 to 29, the first 4 days the film was in theaters — “Like a Prayer” racked up 1.66 million streams on streaming sites like Spotify and Apple Music. That’s a pretty healthy number, especially for a song that’s been enjoyed by millions for decades.

That 1.66 million streams becomes even more impressive when compared to the track’s performance before Deadpool & Wolverine. In 4 days, from July 19 to 22, just over a week before the superhero movie hit theaters, “Like a Prayer” racked up just over half a million streams.

Week over week, “Like a Prayer” saw a 229% increase in streams on major streaming sites. The song hasn’t exactly lost any traction, but its rise is easily tied to the debut of Deadpool & Wolverine.

Sales figures for “Like a Prayer” haven’t been released yet, but it’s likely that the song also saw growth on platforms like iTunes. Deadpool & Wolverine were so big that they likely prompted some fans to buy the pop classic. Depending on its sales, the song could climb a number or two on Billboard in the coming weeks.

On its opening weekend, Deadpool & Wolverine grossed $211 million. That’s just domestic, as it’s already Crosses half a billion dollars worldwide. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman starrer film is ranked the fifth highest-grossing film of 2024, and that’s just the beginning.
