It Ends with Us movie’s crew talking about the rift between Blake Lively and her co-star director Justin Baldoni. Colleen Hoover’s highly anticipated adaptation was a box office success, grossing over £30 million on its opening weekend, but the film was also mired in controversy.
Blake Lively herself has been criticized for not addressing domestic violence, which is a central theme of the film. Additionally, there have been multiple reports of a rift between the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, as the pair have creative differences.
Speaking to Rolling Stone this week, multiple members of the film’s crew explained that the tension between the two on set was an “open secret.”
“Everyone know that Blake and Justin didn’t like each other,” one crew member told the publication. “I think some online rumors seem a little strong. I don’t think they hate each other. But I think they will not work together again. Their styles are very different. Blake is very professional and very practical. Justin… the other reason he’s doing art is that they’ll never be friends.”
“There were conflicting ideas about how to make the movie,” another crew member says. “Because Blake was financing it, Justin couldn’t really put his foot down.”
Neither Blake nor Justin have commented on the alleged split, but the director has hinted that he won’t be returning to make a sequel to the film. Justin Baldoni told to Entertainment Tonight at the film’s premiere that, “I think there are better people for it, and Blake is ready to direct. That’s what I think.” In early August, Blake Lively also made headlines for a filmed interview that Norwegian journalist Kjersti Flaa claimed made her want to quit her job.
