The Venom is officially back, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Entertainment has released the first trailer for “Venom: The Last Dance,” the final film in the Spider-Man villain trilogy.

Tom Hardy returns from the Spider-Man comics as Eddie Brock, the brain-eating symbiote villain known as Venom. Sony refers to “Venom: The Last Dance” as the final film in the trilogy. Eddie Brock and Venom are on the run. With both worlds hunted and the web shut down, the two are forced to make a devastating decision that will end Venom and Eddie Brock’s dance.

In trailer Tom Hardy encounters a giant symbiote alien from Venom’s home planet and is chased by government agents. There’s plenty of symbiote action, as well as a scene where Tom Hardy rides a super-fast horse the size of Venom. Tom Hardy is joined by “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” actor Chiwetel Ejiofor and “Ted Lasso” star Juno Temple.

Recently, fans saw Venom teased in the post-credits scene of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” The villain suffered the effects of Doctor Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) haywire multiverse spell, which transported various Spider-Man villains into the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. At the end of “Venom: Let There Be Carnage,” the symbiotic villain was teleported into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and saw Tom Holland’s Peter Parker on the news, but in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” he returned to his own universe but not before one of its symbiotes.

Following the success of its two predecessors “Venom: The Last Dance” was confirmed by Sony at CinemaCon 2022. The original “Venom” grossed over $856 million at the worldwide box office with “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” drawing in $502 worldwide amid a pandemic debut.

Kelly Marcel makes her directorial debut with the franchise’s third installment “Venom: The Last Dance,” before she was the writer for “Venom” and “Venom: Let There Be Carnage.” She penned the script too, alongside Tom Hardy. Kelly Marcel and Tom Hardy produce alongside Hutch Parker, Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal.

“Venom: The Last Dance” releases in theaters on October 25, 2024.
