Jennifer Lee, the chief creative officer of Disney, concluded the Disney Animation announcements by revealing artwork for the visual development of the musical “Frozen 3.” Created by Britney Lee, it shows Elsa riding a white horse and Anna riding a brown deer.
Jennifer Lee wrote and co-directed with Chris Buck the Oscar-winning animated feature films Frozen and Frozen II, set in the fictional kingdom of Arendelle and featuring a voice cast led by Kristen Bell as Anna, Idina Menzel as Elsa, Josh Gad as the sentient snowman olaf and Jonathan Groff as Kristoff.
The first Frozen movie was released in 2013 and is based on the classic fairy tale “The Snow Queen,” written by Hans Christian Anderson. It immediately became a blockbuster, grossing $1.28 billion at the global box office. At the time of its release, it was the fifth highest-grossing film of all time and now ranks 22nd.
Super-catchy Frozen songs like “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” and the Oscar-winning song “Let It Go” composed by Kristen Anderson and Robert Lopez, helped the soundtrack sell more than 4.1 million copies and garner more than 51 million streams as of June 2016, and won the Oscar for best animated feature.
Frozen 2 was released in 2019 and surpassed the original by grossing $1.45 billion globally. It is currently the 14th highest-grossing film in the world, having debuted at number 10. The sequel expanded the winter world of Arendelle and introduced more elements, locations, and creatures.
In addition, the world of Frozen has spawned television specials, short films, a Broadway musical and ice skating shows.
Disney announced Frozen 3 will be released in Nov. 24, 2027, and aims to answer unanswered questions.
