No need to crown a champion, both films have already won big at the box office.
The Marvel movie, which reunites Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, has grossed about $54 million at the domestic box office, bringing that figure to $494 million, according to comScore. Globally, the film has now surpassed the $1 billion mark, making it the second film to reach that mark in 2024, following Pixar’s Inside Out 2.
Meanwhile, Colleen Hoover’s highly anticipated adaptation of The New York Times bestseller blew away previous estimates by opening to $50 million domestically. Overseas, the film earned another $30 million, bringing its worldwide total to $80 million.
Colleen Hoover’s first book adaptation for the big screen, It Ends with Us, stars Blake Lively as Lily Bloom a flower shop owner, who overcomes traumatic childhood only to cross paths with the charming neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid (Justin Baldoni), an intense romance with an unexpected dark side. Things take a dramatic turn when Lily Bloom’s Ex love, Atlas Corrigan (Brandon Sklenar), suddenly reappears in her life, force her to make an impossible choice for her life.
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are already enjoying their success together. The actress recently credited her husband for writing the fan-favorite rooftop scene in It Ends with Us, in which her character first meet Ryle Kincaid. Blake Lively briefly appeared as a female version of Ryan Reynolds’ character in Deadpool & Wolverine.
In an interview with E! News Blake Lively says, “He works on everything I do, I work on everything he does. So his wins and celebrations are mine and mine are his.”

Outside of the Lively and Reynolds family, another summer blockbuster continues to chart a successful course, the film “Twisters” has earned another $15 million for a domestic gross of $222 million. Worldwide, the film has earned $310 million after its four weeks at theaters. The film tells the story of skilled storm chasers forced to work with a team of unorthodox Tornado Wranglers to help the Oklahoma’s Tornado Valley’s residents.
Elsewhere, “Borderlands” was a flop, opening with $8.8 million ($16.5 million worldwide). Based on a game series with the same name, the stars Ariana Greenblatt, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black and Kevin Hart as a team of misfits who embark on a adventure to find the galaxy’s most powerful man’s daughter.
