“Deadpool and Wolverine” remained at the box office with $824 million worldwide over its two weekends of release.
Starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as their antihero alter egos for the comic book sequel, it has already surpassed the entire film franchise of 2016’s “Deadpool” ($783 million) and “Deadpool 2” of 2018 ($786 million). Deadpool and Wolverine is now the second highest-grossing film of 2024 and the third highest R-rated film in history, behind “Inside Out 2” ($1.555 billion), “Joker” ($1.07 billion) and “Oppenheimer” ($975 million). It is expected to cross the $1 billion mark in a few days.
After this weekend, Walt Disney Studios became the first production in 2024 to surpass $3 billion in worldwide ticket sales. Magic Kingdom managed to hit that milestone with just four domestic releases, including “Deadpool and Wolverine,” “Inside Out 2,” “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” $397 million and “The First Omen” $53 million. Disney will try to continue its momentum with “Alien: Romulus” “Moana 2” and “Mufasa: The Lion King.”
At the international box office Deadpool and Wolverine grossed $110.5 million from 52 countries in its second release. The most profitable markets are China $45.2 million, United Kingdom $42.4 million, Mexico $32.8 million, Australia $24.6 million and also its grossed over $13 million at the Indian box office. Tentpole continues to score with premium formats like IMAX, which generated $17.5 million in weekend ticket sales worldwide. IMAX has grossed $64.5 million for Deadpool and Wolverine.
